Healthy Hair Diet

,

Many people begin to review their diet when they notice hair loss. They often pose the question: “Is the food I’m eat causing my hair to fall out?” They also ask: “Can I change my nutritional intake to grow the hair back?”

The answers actually vary as much as individual diets and hair loss.

Occasionally, hair loss is contributed to Vitamin A deficiency. If this is the case, a well-balanced diet and increased Omega-3 fatty acids can improve the health of hair.  Sometimes, hair loss is from lifestyle factors such as smoking, drinking or high stress. In this situation, changing your lifestyle is necessary to prevent future hair loss. Most often, hair loss is due to genetics. Unfortunately – with male or female pattern hair loss – a healthy diet will not result in hair growing back; however, eating the following foods can improve the overall quality of existing hair:

  • Nuts. Often hair is breaking because it is dry. Nuts have oils that contribute to elastins and growth.
  • Fish. Fish and other foods rich in Magnesium help with hair growth.
  • Carrots. The beta carotene in carrots turns in to Vitamin A which produces essential oil to the scalp.
  • Greek Yogurt. Full of B5 and Vitamin D, Greek Yogurt improves the health of the hair follicle.
  • Eggs. Eggs are rich in Vitamin D and good for overall hair health.
